Yes, we know its pink. The Vesuvius was built under a bad sign and has been in the wrong place at the wrong time ever since. On its initial voyage the Vesuvius' helm systems malfunctioned causing the ship to plunge into a corrosive atmosphere. If only they hadn't managed to pull out it might have been a kinder fate. The hull plating turned pink from this incident. The dock master refused to replaced the hull of a brand new starship since technically, aside from its color, there was nothing wrong with it.

Then one day a starship commander decided to send all his malcontents and misfits to the pink ship. Other commanders followed course and soon the Vesuvius became the punishment ship. Its crew is not incompetent. They are just round pegs trying to fit into square holes.

The Vesuvius is sent on milk runs and every crappy duty out there. She has not been refit in over 10 years because her crew has gained a reputation as thieves, no dockmaster will let them in port. So the crew of the Vesuvius are forced to steal the items necessary to keep their ship running.

The new commander of the Vesuvius has a dream. He has the dream that the Vesuvius will be a real starship again. He has a dream that his ship will not be a place where officer's careers die.
